Black & White KAWS

The design concept for Harlan’s Bar Mitzvah incorporated black and white logos, a KAWS figures, and a vibrant accent of cobalt blue. The venue, Brae Burn Country Club in Scarsdale, was transformed into a sleek space in which the interplay of black and white created a visually engaging atmosphere.

The challenge of designing centerpieces that were both unexpected and reflective of the room’s essence was addressed through the incorporation of custom-designed origami flowers. These origami creations can symbolize various meanings, including love, rebirth, and new beginnings, with interpretations influenced by the type of flower, its color, and the cultural context. I choose the Origami Star flower for the majority of the flowers because Origami stars can symbolize love, good luck, and friendship. Included in the decor were several black and white origami flower designs, alongside a larger custom piece created from one of Harlan’s logos.

Escort Card Design: Upon entering the venue, guests were greeted by a four-foot art installation featuring Harlan’s logos, presented in a geometric design that stood on it’s end. Seating cards made from plexiglass provided a polished finishing touch.

The ballroom approach: The design commenced from the perimeter walls, establishing a black and white pattern using pipe and drape. Each table was adorned in coordinating black and white, strategically pairing contrasting colors for chairs and napkins. This black and white design theme seamlessly extended into Harlan’s lounge area, which featured white and black couches, a bar, and additional detail elements.

Overall, the design showcased an extraordinary array of unique components, culminating in an art installation that was both innovative and reflective of Harlan’s Bar Mitzvah theme.
